Amusement Crush

On the first Summer morning
Of the year,
In a town full of mosquitoes
And deer,
A woman wakes her child up
In his bed.
He’s excited for the
Amusement park
Where he’ll attend his first concert,
As said.
He’ll see roller coasters like a
Check mark.
He’ll see Ferris wheels and
Clowns cry on cue.
There’ll be bumper cars and
Food for all
And there’ll be souvenirs and
Mascots, too!
A water park over
A waterfall
With an expensive pass to
Cut in line,
Will bring joy to his family and
Friends.
This spectacle may send chills
Down his spine.
If it’s overcrowded,
The world attends.

His father works at the
Amusement park.
He’s a manager, so that’s a
Check mark.

He should see his favorite
Singer there.
The rides will give him time
To catch some air.

Maybe his crush will see
How brave he is.
He can brag about the job
His dad has,
But he knows she’s wealthy and
In show biz.
He likes few gals, but
No one as great as.

It could be worse like maybe
A car crash.

“I hope it doesn’t rain again,”
He thinks.
His mother packs meals and brings
Out soft drinks.
He washes up, slips his clothes
On, and smiles.
He gets in the car and
His father drives,
But not without mother, who
Drinks for miles.
It’s like dog years of boredom,
He survives.
When his mother turns on
Country music,
His headphones stop working,
So he hears dad,
Talking like he’s homesick, but
It’s a trick.
The day is still, so what more
Can go bad?
The trees are lifeless and the way
Is ahead.
The music stops for his father’s
Phone calls
Where there’s complaints like
A deathbed widespread.
He’s just eating spaghetti and
Meatballs.

There goes traffic, then
Everyone drives.
They make it, so
Everyone survives.

That’s when they meet their friends,
Eat, and ride rides.
If it’s the same ride, then they’d
Just switch sides.

When he rides one ride with
His mom and dad.
It goes upside down and
Stops in the air.
The clouds kiss him and
That can’t make him mad.
The people scream like sound
Out of nowhere.

It could be worse like maybe
An earthquake.

Enjoy your life because you
Only get one,
But be born again and don’t
Have too much fun.
Your life can end just like that
Before you blink.
Sometimes, living isn’t life,
But time to think.

His friends watching go,
“Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!”
His crush is recording
This on her cell phone.
The world is upside down
With more drama.
The world is full, but he feels
So alone,
So he has to remember to
Stay strong.

Look At What Romance Does

© April 25, 2021. All Rights Reserved.

I promise, soon, you’ll barely

Know who I am.

Soon, you’ll barely

Know who I am.

Making sense of my feelings

May cause aversion,

So like mugshots in a casket,

Hold your applause.

The day you see impotent town

Is diversion.

I don’t schedule my regrets

Or any flaws.

If it’s true that your heart

Is my inheritance,

Your bottomless heart is

The reason I still feel.

My reasons for hesitance

Are due to romance,

But I want a love that can

Reshape stainless steel.

I know the heaven’s came

Early when I saw your face.

If I tasted spoiled junket

Until I saw you

And I told you, “I’d die for you,”

Would you need space?

I’ve reheard the same stories

Too good to be true.

What if the wisest way to love

Could be far?

Is it your body, your rules

Or your mind, your rules?

What if the wisest way to live

Could be bizarre?

My soul would drool while women

Focused on jewels.

Things can’t be the same

Like the unfathomable.

I’ll gain finger cramps

For writing poems about you.

If I take one step closer,

It may be simple.

My silence has me

Walking in circles I drew.

What if I dodged a thousand

Arrows in the dark?

I feel like you’d unearth the world

To find a smile

For that one day, we rise

As matriarch and patriarch.

I remember, the love you have

Is versatile.

If I’m your self-destruction

In heaps of heaven,

Would you subdue life as

You make love to Earth tones?

If strangers tell you to smile 24/7,

Then are there encores

Till blushes pass your cheekbones?

I could adapt your eyes

Into homemade movies.

Your eyes may solely be

On somebody better.

Because my heart could

Give you the heebie-jeebies,

This is why I’ll never send

You this love letter.
